BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

 

1998 marked the fourth time the Chevrolet Corvette had been selected as the Indy 500 Pace Car.  

Other than mandatory safety features, the Corvette needed no modifications to meet pace car specifications.

“The replica Corvette convertible pace cars will be exactly the same as

the real thing — with the exception of the specially-fitted strobe lights on

the actual pace car which were mandated by the Speedway for safety reasons. And

since the 345-hp Corvette needs no powertrain modifications to handle the pacing

chores, the replicas will be mechanically identical to the original.”

 

Golfing great Greg Norman was scheduled to drive the 1998 pace car, but was forced to withdraw due to recent shoulder surgery.  1963 Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones was selected to fill in for Norman.

The 1998 Corvette’s color-shifting “radar blue” paint and bright yellow wheels presented some of the most extreme looks for an Indy pace car.  The car is powered by the stock 5.7 litre LS1 V-8 engine and features an Active Handling chassis control system.

1,158 limited edition pace car replicas were produced by Chevrolet.

The Z4Z Pace Car Package (with the automatic) adds $5,039 to

the Corvette convertible’s very competitive base MSRP of $44,990 (which includes

destination charges).

We purchased this Indy Corvette from the original owner in Oct 2010.

Factory 6-Speed, Convertible – 18K Original Miles.

1 of only 247 6 spd IPC’s Produced for 1998.

This is a 100% untouched and all-original 1998 Corvette Pace Car.

Only 18,247 Original Miles – New tires have been installed for safety reasons (originals are stored away)
