BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

The 1991 Toyota MR2 was a mid-engined, rear wheel drive, two-seater sports car produced by Toyota Motor Corporation. It represented the second generation of the MR2 model lineage and was the first model year sold in North America. Compared to its predecessor, this car was larger, weighing 350 to 400 lbs. (159 to 181 kg) more due to it having a more luxurious and spacious cabin, larger engine sizes, sturdier transaxle, and a more durable suspension setup. Production of the second generation MR2 in North America ran from 1991 to 1995, while in Japan and other overseas markets production ceased in 1999. The MR2 received two main trim levels in the United States: the base model, which was powered by a 130HP naturally aspirated model 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine, and the turbo model powered by a 200HP 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. While the base model was offered with the choice of either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission, the turbo model was only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission. The US market MR2 Turbo was able to accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and finish the ¼ mile in 14.3 seconds, outperforming Toyota’s flagship sports car, the Toyota Supra Turbo until 1993.5. The 1991 MR2 Turbo was offered with options such as a full leather interior, T-top removable roof, dual CD/cassette radio with seven speakers, a fiberglass engine lid with raised vents, fog lights, and an added interior center storage compartment located between the two seats. The overall design of the second generation MR2 received more rounded, streamlined styling, with some calling it a “baby Ferrari” or “poor man’s Ferrari” due to design cues similar to the Ferrari 348, despite the MR2 concept design being released prior.
