Deering Estate Vintage Auto Show 2023

By Jean Hawa

Thirty-five antique vehicles encircled the beautiful great lawn of the historic Deering Estate on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Based upon the hundreds of spectators on the first morning of the end of daylight saving time, the extra hour of sleep didn’t deter anyone from coming to inspect the vintage vehicles which ranged from 1911 to 1965. In addition to watching the manatees and turtles bobbing for air, pelicans swooping in and out of the water, we watched a fledgling cormorant sunning itself for hours. Of course, having a beautiful sunny day with moderate temperatures enhanced the experience of the perfect Sunday in the Park.
In addition to the helpful direction from Special Events Coordinator Jenna Noordhoek and her staff who set up the tents and helped park the cars, several South Florida Region club members were instrumental to the success of the show: Assisting Chairwoman Jean Hawa were Ed Medina who handled the on-line registration and check-in and Angel Aulet and Tom Kosky who helped at registration. A huge thank you goes to all the car owners who showcased their vintage automobiles to the admiring general public.

DEERING ESTATE VINTAGE AUTO SHOW – NOVEMBER 6, 2022

The November 2022 Deering Estate Vintage Auto Show could not have been a better experience! Everything went perfectly as the cars came to line up to enter; and thanks to Jean Hawa’s meticulous preparation, it was as easy as 1,2 & 3! Then with assistance from Ira Shapiro and Bob Squier, checking the cars in and getting them on the grounds was probably one of the easiest car shows to have been a part of.

The weather was perfect a nice high 80’s but with a beautiful nice summer wind (in the fall) coming in from the bay. With over 35 cars on the lawn at the Deering Estate and a slew of spectators streaming through for five hours, it was a special day. We had entries from 1911 through 1965 showcasing a spectacular array of vintage classic automobiles, including vintage International Harvester vehicles.

Deering Estate Vintage Auto Show – November 7, 2021

Sunday, November 7, was the kind of day that people come from all over the world to Florida for: clear, cool, low humidity, and a soft breeze.  It was the kind of day that was made for a car show in a magnificent setting such as the Deering Estate on the shore of Biscayne Bay.  More than thirty cars and trucks were displayed, gleaming in the sun, attracting many visitors and admiring gazes.  Thanks to the leadership of Jean Hawa, this was one of the most memorable shows in years, and it was a wonderful way to start the new show season.

Thank you to the people of the Deering Estate who made it happen as well as thanks to volunteers who helped out: Bob Squier, Ira Shapiro, and Philip Williams.

Deering Estate Vintage Auto Show – January 10, 2021

Our Deering Estate Vintage Auto Show that was postponed due to weather – Hurricane Theta – was rescheduled to Sunday, January 10th.  Weather was also an issue with this show.  The day started with temperatures in the upper 40’s, cold by South Florida standards, but it warmed up rapidly to a beautiful cloudless low 70’s day. We had only twenty-three cars and motorcycles due to COVID-19 restrictions, but still it was held in a beautiful location for displaying our cars  which were surrounded by nature. We got to see manatees bobbing for air and pelicans swooping into the lagoon that leads to Biscayne Bay.

In addition to the helpful direction from Special Events Coordinator Jenna Noordhoek and her staff who set up the tents and helped park the cars, the following South Florida Region club members were instrumental to the success of the show: Assisting Chairwoman Jean Hawa were Ira Shapiro and Philip Williams at check-in; and Al Padilla and Bob Squier providing the photos.
