BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:
The Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is to this day one of the most sought after collector cars of the 1950’s. Released for the 1957 model year, the Skyliner remained in production for only three years, with only 12,915 being manufactured in 1959, its final year of manufacture. The ’59 Fairlane 500 version is the rarest iteration of the Skyliner, having been produced for only eight weeks, from September to November of 1958. After that, ALL Skyliners were badged as Galaxies!
Hemmings Classic Car Magazine calls the Skyliner ‘one of the top 100 collector cars of all time. Besides its fantastic styling and prominent tail fins,” says Hemmings, “It’s retractable hardtop is one of the most innovative body features of all time — one that never fails to attract the attention of all who see it in action.”
During its production, the Skyliner stood by itself as the ONLY retractable hardtop convertible in the world. There wouldn’t be another one for nearly 40 years!
And this one, meticulously restored in 1988 to the highest standards, is loaded with features that make it not only beautiful to look at, but also a dream to drive. Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Power Seat, Power Top plus ice cold ORIGINAL Factory Air Conditioning brought this car’s original factory price to more than $5,000, the most expensive ford full size passenger car of the era.
Mated with the automaker’s exclusive Ford-O-Matic transmission, the powerful 352 cubic inch V8 with 4 barrel carburetion , puts out 300 horsepower, more than enough to keep up with modern day cars.
And just look at it: exquisitely finished in Ford’s Geranium and Colonial White – its chrome bumpers and trim are like fine jewelry… and that distinctive Continental Kit with Spare Tire add the finishing touch.
This 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is a true American Classic!
