BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

Though inspired by the Corvette, Ford billed the Thunderbird as a personal luxury car, putting greater emphasis on comfort and convenience. The Thunderbird sold exceptionally well and outsold the Corvette 16,155 to 700. Although the Thunderbird had been considered a sales success Ford felt that as a 2-seater its sales potential was restricted. As a result, the car was redesigned as a four-seater for 1958 and sales surged to 37,892 – the new Thunderbird began a sales momentum previously unseen. .

For 1964, the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car from the side or rear. The new 1964 Thunderbird was offered in hardtop, convertible and Landau versions. The 300 horsepower 390 cubic inch (6.4 L) FE V8 continued as the standard engine and it was paired to e 3-speed automatic transmission.

92,465 Thunderbirds were produced in 1964.
