BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

The Ferrari 400 – Automatic (400 A) was the first Ferrari to be produced with an automatic transmission. Along with the Ferrari 400 – Manual, the 400 is the second iteration of a series of cars that included their predecessor, the 365 GT4 2+2, and the subsequent Ferrari 400i and the Ferrari 412.

Pinifarina’s design for the traditional V12 front-engine 365 stretched back to 1972, yet it still looked fresh when the car was renamed the 400. This large Ferrari enjoyed a long production run with few changes.

Made between 1977 and 1979, the 400 A was powered by the same V12 as its predecessor, but received a slight displacement increase to 4.8 liters (as compared to 4.4 liters). The V12 used six side-draft Weber carburetors, and was capable of 335 HP at 6200 rpm, sending drive to the rear wheels through a GM 3-speed automatic transmission.

Ferrari produced a total of 502 samples of the Ferrari 400, out of which 355 were automatic and the rest were manual. It evolved into the Ferrari 400i – Automatic in 1978.

BRIEF STORY OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE:

This particular Ferrari was a barn yard find in Sarasota, Florida during April 2023. It had been in storage for over 25 years. The current owners fully restored the vehicle and was completed at the end of 2023. Despite being a 45+ year old vehicle, it did NOT need to be repainted. It maintained the original factory paint you currently see. It has been to several classic car shows since restoration.
