BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

The E28 is the second generation of the BMW 5 Series, manufactured from July 1981 – December 1987. It was the first 5 Series with the center console angled towards the driver, a feature which is still used to this day on all modern 5 series. Standard equipment from factory included Power Windows, Central Locking, Air Conditioning, Power Sunroof, Cruise Control, Power-Adjustable Front Seats as well as an Upgraded Stereo. The E28 528e was equipped with a 2.7L “High Efficiency” M20 6-Cylinder engine known as the “ETA” engine (the ‘e’ in 528e is for the Greek letter “e”, which stands for economy). The engine produced 121 hp (90 kW) but 171 lb·ft (232 Nm) of torque. It uses the small port “200” casting cylinder head from the 2.0 L M20 with a special low duration cam to improve low rpm power and maximize efficiency. The 5 Series came only as a Sedan, but was available as an Automatic or with a LSD Manual Transmission.

BRIEF STORY OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE:

I am second owner of this E28. I purchased it in September of 2022 from the original owner. The car had been a California car its entire life and was kept inside a climate-controlled garage, protecting it from the elements. The exterior color is called Cosmos Blau Metallic (Blau is German for Blue) and the interior is finished in Pacific Blue Leather. Not only does this 528e have a perfectly intact Dash, which is a rarity in cars of this era but also proudly boasts a 5-speed Manual Transmission. Car is as Original as can be: all Matching VIN Numbers, 112k miles, Original Paint, Original Interior (with the Sheep Skin Covers, which had been kept on since 1985!), Original Tools, Original Jack and Roadside Equipment. Car had a full Inspection done in October 2022, whereas they replaced hoses, belts and attended to minor maintenance items. Only upgrades have been a refreshed suspension and 16-inch BMW E38 wheels (came off a 1990 7 series). Being the caretaker for this unmolested example, is one of my highest honors.
