BRIEF MANUFACTURER DETAILS AND SIGNIFICANT HISTORY OF CAR:

The 1991 Nissan Figaro was introduced at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show under the slogan “Back to the Future” due to its 50’s retro design created by two Nissan engineers. It was built at the Pike Factory – a Nissan plant that produced only special projects which also included the following rare Nissan models: Be-1, Pao and S-Cargo.

This car was made for the Japanese market and only made in 1991 with a total production of 20,000 vehicles. Originally, only 8,000 were planned to be produced but due to high demand, an additional 12,000 were produced later in the year. Demand was ultimately so high with over 100,000 requests that Nissan decided to run a lottery. Only 1 in 5 customers were lucky enough to get one of the 20,000 made.

Throughout time, some Figaros began to be exported from Japan – mainly to the U.K.  Currently, you will also see a handful of these in the United States.

The Nissan Figaro was made in only 4 original exterior colors. Each color symbolized a season of the year: Lapiz Grey (vehicle on display), Emerald Green, Topaz Mist, and Pale Aqua. Interior leather seating came only in an ivory white color.

Specs: The Figaro is a 2-door car with a manual convertible top equipped with an inline 4-cylinder turbo motor powering the front wheels. It has a 1.0-liter engine. The 4-cylinder unit develops 76hp at 6000 rpm. The engine transfers its power through to the front wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission. It weighs 1786 lbs and is able to attain a top speed of 97 mph. 

AC, leather seats, power windows, power assist brakes, AM/FM/CD/Cassette player, and intermittent wipers were standard on all Figaros. 1500 out of the 20,000 cars produced had rare Tokyo mirrored plaques on the rear lower sides that were later reproduced and translated (for models imported into the UK / USA.) The inscription reads:” TOKYO NOUVELLE VAGUE. 1991. THE FIGARO ENABLES US TO EXPERIENCE THE REAL ESSENCE OF ELEGANCE AND SOPHISTICATION. IT IS IDEAL FOR THE PERSON WHO ENJOYS SAVORING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME. NISSAN FIGARO”
